In 1997 she became member of the Masao Hirata Dance Company (Contemporary Dance) and performed in productions by M. Hirata, T. Hirata and Y. Nakahara to name a few. From 2003 to 2009 Koto collaborated with a group of musicians to bring some of her own choreographies like “Shall walk looking up” or “A Thousand Years Medal” on to stage. In 2009 she followed her husband, who has been engaged at the opera, to Graz, where she lives since.
Koto has been performing regularly with @tendance/C.Medina (2 Scan Deep, It is not always WYSIWG and Short Stories).
Thomas Mauerhofer (Composer/Musician)
He started playing classical guitar at an early age and soon moved on to playing in various funk and rock projects. Later on he studied jazz guitar at the prestigeous University in Graz, Austria, as well as at the Royal Conservatory in Rotterdam, and started working professionally.
Together with saxophonist Georg Gratzer he stayed in London to explore the experimental music scene and to expand his musical repertoire with more avantgardistic influences. During these stays the two composed music for different small theatre pieces and developed the concept of carysfortstories.
Growing interest in original music from different parts of the world led to collaborations with musicans from the Balkan, Persia and also India. And in 2008 and 2009 he visited India where he stayed in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bhopal and a lot of other places to study classical Indian music. Over the years he has developed a huge repertoire of guitar music and styles, which he brings to his improvisations with sublime ease.
Apart from being guitarist and doing live- and studiowork, he discovered his interest in another part of the music universe which is what
one might call sounddesign: the actual art of recording and bringing out the best aspects of what’s been played at a specific moment!
He currently expands his musical horizon by playing a 8-string guitar designed by Novax Guitars.
